Hot Projects: Week of Nov. 19
Discovery @ Brookview Elementary
Saturday, December 1 From 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (East Point)
The Hands On Atlanta Discovery program is a volunteer-led Saturday tutoring and enrichment program. The program reinforces weekday learning through academic assistance, educational games, field trips, service-learning projects, and other enrichment activities. Students are engaged in a variety of subjects depending on the needs of their particular schools. Our goal is to have a one-on-one volunteer to student ratio, allowing for individualized attention and the building of relationships between students and volunteers.
East Atlanta Kids Club 20th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, December 1 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM (East Atlanta)
East Atlanta Kids Club is celebrating 20 wonderful years of community impact and youth services on Saturday, December 1, 2018! We are thrilled to fellowship with and show our gratitude for the families and youth we serve, staff past and present who have enriched our program, and the big-hearted community members who have known, supported and loved all our youth and families. Volunteers are needed to help set up, greet guests, serve food and drinks (volunteers age 21 and older can help serve alcoholic beverages), help with the silent auction and check-in/coat check.
Meadow Habitat Restoration
Saturday, December 1 From 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Buckhead)
Blue Heron Nature Preserve is seeking a small group of volunteers to assist with restoring the meadow habitat spaces along our outdoor trails. As the weather is becoming increasingly cooler, we will be removing many of the plants and flora which seasonally bloomed during the summer, but have now died back. This project will entail working outdoors to pull, cut, and remove large plants, as well as general trail maintenance and clean up.
Mercy Seed Community Food Pantry
Friday, December 7 From 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM (Lilburn)
The Mercy Seed Community Food Pantry (MSCFP) changes lives by helping to meet the needs of the church and community by providing food to the community with the love of Christ. MSCFP provides food assistance to low-income individulas. MSCFP works to meet its mission through our weekly food distribution, annual Thanksgiving food giveaway, and mobile food trucks twice a year. Volunteers will help unload Atlanta Community Food Bank truck and unpack and sort food to be ready for clients on Saturday and the following Wednesday.
Moving in the Spirit Holiday Store
Saturday, December 8 with shifts From 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM (Old Fourth Ward)
Moving in the Spirit is an award-winning creative youth development program that uses dance to teach young people the social, emotional and cognitive skills they need to thrive. The Holiday Store is a festive and meaningful event that impacts the lives of 250 children and teens each holiday season. Our students earn "points" every class for meeting their dance and leadership commitments. At the Holiday Store, they use those points to "buy" gifts for their families and loved ones, reinforcing their sense of hard work, compassion, and giving. Volunteers will provide assistance with set-up (decorating, setting up stations, separating donations, etc.), gift-wrapping, helping children as personal shoppers, checkout help, and clean up.
